Infographic: The Government’s Call for Evidence Summarised

The Government has launched a call for evidence as it seeks the views of property industry professionals and homeowners on how the home buying and selling process can be improved.

The document poses questions based around the main components of the home buying process including estate agents, conveyancing, mortgages and the requirements of lenders. It also highlights current problem areas and how they could potentially be improved, such as harnessing digital technology, educating buyers and sellers, better information at the point of sale and sharing information to increase commitment.

In addition to questioning the process, the document also presents findings from a survey of 2,000 people who had bought or sold a home in the last two years. This unveiled stark, although not unsurprising, statistics about how stagnant the British approach to buying and selling a property has become.

We have summarised the key takeaways in this handy infographic to save you having to read the full 24 page report. If you wish to read the full Call for Evidence, it can be found at www.gov.uk

Anyone with a professional interest in the property sector, including estate agents, solicitors, surveyors and mortgage lenders are encouraged to share their thoughts and opinions on the process before the 17th December 2017 deadline. You can respond via email to homebuyingandselling@communities.gsi.gov.uk or via an online survey.

Any information shared will be used as evidence in the coming year while the government is drawing up new legislation to improve the process of home buying and selling. This is a positive step from the Government to modernise the legalities around buying and selling property and we look forward to seeing the results next year.
